Cases

Early Modern Irish has five cases: nominative, vocative, dative, accusative and genitive.

In Modern Irish, the nominative is used in almost all instances for where the accusative would have been used; and the dative singular form has largely fallen out of use and survives primarily in a few set phrases, such as sa ló (dative singular of lá) and in Éirinn (dative singular of Éire).
